Why doesn't the govt. raise military salaries?

answers 0:Why doesn't the govt. raise military salaries? answers 1:I am betting that you do not understand how military pay works .... right? The US Government uses Department of Labor pay standards to determine the pay of any Government employee, military or civil service.Military pay is based on where the average person is in their personnel life and what they are doing for a job.For example, the pay for someone in the Paygrade of E1 in the military is based on what a average person in the civilian world should be making for someone who is essentially unskilled with no supervisory requirements, high school education, unmarried, and is just entering the work force. The issue with that, is that the Servicemember is also getting free housing, free food, free medical and dental, low-cost and tax-free shopping on base, etc, etc. At the end of the day, that E1 Servicemember is doing pretty good, and far better than his average civilian peer.An O1 is paid based on someone who has a college education, skilled in basics, has low-level supervisory requirements, has advanced cognitive skills, and may be married (and if he is, then the spouse probably works as well). That O1 also gets free housing, food allowance, free medical and dental, etc, etc. He also is doing far better than his civilian peer right out of college. So ... at the end of the day, I'd like to have a higher salary, but we get paid pretty well in the military all things considering. I guarantee you, that any Servicemember who is having trouble making ends meet is either terrible at managing money or has way too many dependants for his paygrade. Any Servicemember who is on any sort of public assistance is guilty of one of the two points just made: terrible at money management or too many rugrats.... answers 2:Because we get paid too much anyway, and it's the incidental costs that are killing the budget. Source: CJCS statements to Congress. answers 3:They find plenty will work for present salaries. answers 4:The government has raised military salaries for each year, this year (2015) is projected to be 1%.
